2008 Pathways to Success -- A HUGE SUCCESS!

Creating pathways to success, HACEPD conducted its FREE half-day training Bridging the Employment Gap Seminar on Thursday, June 26, 2008. We were very honored and pleased to host the participation of Human Resource (HR) representatives from a diverse range of employers that resulted with over 65 attendees taking part in our training!

Allan Day of the MSFC at NASA shared highlights on Etiquette in Employing People with Disabilities Booklet. This booklet was produced in collaboration with BOEING. Free copies of the booklets were provided during registration.

Jump starting our motivation for true expression of giving back! Nancy Klatt presentation of Best Practices for Employing Persons with Disabilities in a Manufacturing/Production Environment was extremely educational. Ms. Klatt's presentation, introduced the attendees to the Alabama Occupational Diploma (AOD) as well as how employers can hire students with disabilities for short-term and/or part-time work. Therefore, enabling students not only to, earn their AOD but also acquire valuable work experience. At Coca-cola, several students have achieved full-time and/or permanent employment status.

The key note speaker was Jerome (Jerry) C. Rose. Mr. Rose is a graduate of University of Denver where he received his undergraduate degree and a MBA in 1970. He was degreed with a Law Degree from the University Of Denver College Of Law. During his tenure as a law student, he was, twice elected to serve in the Colorado House of Representatives.

Mr. Rose served as a Regional Attorney for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission from 1979 until January 2001 where he directed the litigation of discrimination cases on behalf of the Commission in Alabama and Mississippi. Prior to becoming a Regional Attorney, Mr. Rose was a Supervisory Trial Attorney at the EEOC Regional Litigation Center in Atlanta, Georgia from 1976 to 1979. During this time, he directed the prosecution of litigation on behalf of the EEOC on a regional and national basis.

Currently, Mr. Rose consults with our clients and other attorneys concerning, investigating and responding to Charges of Discrimination filed with the EEOC. Drawing on his experience as Regional Attorney, he also provides strategic advice in handling complex EEO litigation. On the preventative front, he conducts training for supervisors and human resources professionals and performs audits of our clients' employment policies and practices. Additionally, Mr. Rose provides mediation services to assist other companies in resolving employment disputes. He is licensed to practice law in the State of Colorado and before the Fifth and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeals.
